野田首相誕生 [D1.政治・経済・社会]

  さあ、また日本では新しい首相が誕生しました。今度は大丈夫でしょうか?私は、この野田さんを知ってるんですよね。6,7年前に津田沼に住んでいる時、毎朝、駅前で街頭演説してました。その点は、評価に値しますよね。同い年なので、頑張ってほしいです。

  【速報】8月30日に衆参両院は第95代首相として民主党代表の野田佳彦を選出した。その前日の29日に行われた民主党代表選では5人が立候補。下馬評では海江田万里と前原誠司の争いになると囁かれていたが、蓋を開けてみれば野田佳彦が前原を抑えて2位となり、海江田との決選投票となった。

1回目の得票が143票だった海江田に対し、41票も少ない102票だった野田。しかし決選投票では野田は113票を上積みして215票を獲得。大逆転で代表選を勝ち抜いた。初回投票で3位に終わった前原の74票だけではなく、4位の鹿野52票もかなりの数が野田に回った。

  I had a chance to do customer house visit in Johannesburg today. I know the black people also are purchasing our products. I, however,didn't imagine the people who are living at such slum are our customers.

  The young taxi driver is living with his loved wife,kid and mother in a small hand made barracks. He was attracted by our high end home theater system in the shop. And he started to save the money covering the down payment of 36 month installment for six months.

  Now whole family are very happy enjoying the music in the tiny house. Yes, for them Music is as important as Water. I was also happy to see their happy faces because we could contribute it in a sense.

  I didn't see the sad faces in this town. It reminds me that South Africa is the world 4th happiest country according to Coca Cola happiness barometer survey.http://nasser.blog.so-net.ne.jp/2010-06-05-3

 The survey shows that real world contact with family and partners is a greater source of joy than virtual world alternatives. Yes! they don't need iPad but back ground music for their conversation.

  The wealth can give a lot of choice but not always giving happiness.

  The author warns that there will be no success for Japanese MNCs without becoming passport blind relative to who they identify and develop as gobal leaders.

  On average Japanese are some of the most risk-averse people in the world. On average the Japanese are more than twice as risk-averse as the Americans and British, 40% more risk-averse as Germans, and 7% more risk-averse as the French.

  Four stages on the path to Globalization

  1. Domestic focus  2. Export  3.Regional Focus (Globallocalization) 

  4. Borderless global business  → Some things are globally integrated and standardized in thought and action, while some are locally differentiated in thought and action. It also means that there are still other things that are a hybrid or blend of both.

  One of the first drivers of innovation in business is diversity. If the conflicts,disagreements,etc. that the diversity sparks are well managed, then diverse groups actually outperform more homogeneous groups in terms of innovation.Thus the second thing we know about the key drivers of innovation is that effective leadership of the innovators is critical to success.

  These leaders need a combination of skills. First,they need significant interpersonal and group management skills in areas such as drawing out contributions and thoughts and managing conflicts.  Secong,they must be able to periodically remind and keep the group on task.  Third, the leaders of innovative groups need a high degree of self-awareness in terms of their own strengthens, weaknesses,biases, and tendencies.

  You may have some innate curiosity or interpersonal skills, but without some experience, training, and coaching, you are unlikely to walk away with any innovation performance records.

  I joined IS group "team building" activity (around 12 people)in Bintan island that locates one hour ferry distance from Singapore.

  Actually we did team building experience session for our senior management on Sep 2010. Since then it becomes very popular in our organization.

  We had not only formal team building activity but also original one as campfire and dancing performance competition.

  I was amazed how talented people we have.  They showed the different expertise.

  Really it was fun and the following is my thought to the "team building".

  Team Building

   Normally we work as a team, so it is important to have a strong organization or increase organization skill. In this sense, Team Building is crucial activity. 

   FFSFive Factor & Stresstheory was developed by US navy request in 1979 and it could bring the 8 peoples’ productivity to 12.On the base of this theory, Dr.Kobayashi -Organizational behaivior psychologist- developed his unique FFS theory for the enterprise organization, which has human individual character analysis, categorization and relationship analysis of this character.There are four type for human behaviors, which are “Leadership type (leading the organization), “Tugboat type (leading the group),”Management type (supporting the improvement) and Anchor type (sustaining the situation). 55% of Japanese have Management type character, which is not suitable for the transformation time. Leadership and Tugboat type character is suitable for short term and innovative project, while Management and Anchor type character is suitable for long term and ameliorative project. In another words, the former suits for transformation time, the latter suits for stable time.

  Of course Dr Kobayashi stresses that good combination of these characters is crucial considering the challenge which each company faces. Since there are simple diagnosis tool in his book, it may worthwhile to check and diagnosis your organization. It could be said the former is sales and marketing people type and the latter is control and finance type. And we could analysis by the perspective of gender, nationality and generation etc.  

   “Team Building” is the one of most powerful activities to strengthen the organization, which is getting very popular especially in the western countries. Japan used to be the leading country that does this kind of activities like Inter sports day. Unfortunately, it becomes less popular because they feel this as an old fashioned one nowadays.  The training institutes for the enterprise have started to include Team Building courses more and more, which give a bigger effect by the short program. “Finger Lift” is one of the famous examples. When you change the organization and need a quick unified atmosphere in it, Team building activity will help a lot. 

     

    Another team bonding activity is “Company trip”. This was also very popular in Japanese companies, which is getting less popular nowadays, too because of the same reason as team building. This, however, is very powerful for the team bonding. The cost may be the issue to continue this.

  It may be the solution to combine Team Building activity and Company Trip. Team building activity can be done in your auditorium but gives you more effect if you do it out of the office. So naturally when you do the Team Building activity, you will use the facility outside of the office. If so, you can select a recreational spot as the venue and stay one night including some free time. In this case you can use your training budget ( say 30%)and welfare one together. You might include brain storming session for mid range plan etc in the program, so you can use this activity for the multipurpose.

Ramadan [D1.政治・経済・社会]

  Ramadan started on Aud 1st in this year. According to the Wikipedia,Ramadan (Arabic: رمضان) is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, and the month in which the Qur'an was revealed.Ramadan is the holiest of months in the Islamic calendar, and fasting in this month is one of the Five Pillars of Islam. The month is spent by Muslims fasting during the daylight hours from dawn to sunset.

  When I was in Kuwait around 28 years ago, I experienced this Ramadan. We had the half day work in the morning as usual and went back home, then we started to work after sunset - around seven till ten or eleven o'clock.

 I felt that I was working two days in a day. So it was a bit tough experience during Ramadan. Eid holiday after Ramadan ,however, was a fun time. People were gathering together and clebrating like a new year. Actually it becomes a good sales season for us.

  So to the people who is fasting now,please take care of yourself.

Golf Lesson [A3.ゴルフ]

  Usually I am good at playing any kind of sports. Actually I could complete my first triathlon after the intensive three month training only.

  Golf,however,is not the case. I am playing the golf almost 20 years but not doing well.

  I took my 6th golf lesson today. The coach said that my swing looks like the person's one who plays at 80+.

 Is it the commercial lip service or the coaching technique to encourage the poor performer ? You can judge by this video.

   The following is Peter Dracker's version of " The Three Stonecutters" story.

   Once upon a time, there was a traveler who came upon three individuals working with stone. Curious as to what the workers were doing with the stones, the traveler approached the first worker and asked, “What are you doing with these stones?” Grumpily and without hesitation the worker quickly responded, “I am a stonecutter and I am cutting stones I am trying to make enough money to support my family.” 

  Not satisfied with this answer, the traveler approached the second worker and asked, “What are you doing with these stones?” The second worker paused for a moment, sighed, but smiled a little and then explained proudly, “I am cutting this block of stone to make sure that it’s square, and its dimensions are uniform, so that it will fit exactly in its place in a wall.I am doing the best job of stone cutting in the entire country."

   Having two different answers to the same question, the traveler made his way to the third worker and asked, “What are you doing with these stones?” The third worker stopped what he was doing, bringing his chisel to his side. He looked at the traveler with a beaming smile on his face and declared, “I am a stonecutter and I am building a cathedral to the glory of God”.

  The first stonecutter knew what he wanted to get from his work, and was doing so. He was giving a fair day's work for a fair day's pay. The third stonecutter obviously had a positive attitude to his work, perhaps because he saw the bigger picture.

  But what about the second stonecutter? Drucker suggested this was a potential problem area, perhaps the opposite of the third stonecutter's view of the bigger picture. Here was someone focusing on his own narrow view of work. If the building which they were making is not a cathedral but a gambling house. what would he do - stop cutting the stone or continue ?

  People should work to contribute the society. In order to do so, they will take a part of their expert job to complete the organization mission.

  People shoud think this all the time so that they can upgrade their expertise more. Thus they can take a bigger part of the whole mission.

  If they are focusing on their expertise only and keep changing the organization in order to upgrade their skill, they can be the best stonecutter but don't deliver any contribution to the society because the contribution to the society is not in thier minds.

  So the important point is to understand what you are making ,is it a chathdral or a gambling house?  You have to decide what you want to make then you use your expertise. In order to make better chathedarl, you should skill up or upgrade your expertise.

パットがあまりにひどいので、パターマットを買いました。

 Horizon hillsで過去4回やって、平均が122と悲惨な結果です。次回の社内コンペもここらしいので、少し攻略法を考えてみたいと思います。ここは、やはり、きざんでいくんでしょうね、大たたきしないように。

 大体大たたきするホールがあります。下線のホールは、池があるんですよね。

OSIM Singapore International Triathlon [A2.トライアスロン(自転車・スイム)]

  I started to run around 14 years ago when I was forty years old. After some years passed, I started to dream that someday I would try Triathlon.

  Today my dream comes true - almost 10 years passed after stating to dream.

  We arrived at East Coast at 5:00am. We have enough time for the preparation. OSIM SIngapore International Triathlon celeblates 10 anniversary. Total 3,500 triathletes participated -1,500 in the standard (Olympic distance S1.5km,B 40,R10) category.

   First race category is 1.5km swim. 220 wemen started at 8:00am. 15 minites later,107 fifties' men took the second wave , which my two collegues and I particiapted. It was the first time for me to do the open water swimming competition. It was so congested. Like many fish, somebody swam over me. Since I do the breast stroke, I kicked so many people - SORRY!. Due to the very windy weather , it was very choppy. We were struggling against the heavy current.

  I found my colleague,Paul during this swim race, so I started to do the drafting behing him. THANKS!.

  Anyway it took 54 minitues to complete , which is more than 10 minitues slower than the normal time.

  Next is 40km Bike.  This is also the first time for me.  I thought to ride the bike at 25km/h speed. But I am so excited, I coundn't help speeding up at 30km/h.

  I had still enough stamina so that I could enjoy this bike session. We had to do 4 laps. When I completed the first lap, the U shape curve which gathers a lot of audience jumped into my eyes. So I coundn't help showing my high speed cornering technique. I got into the corner and made the speed up and went throu----h, but but, too fas----t. I crushed into the corner wall. I didn't understand what happend. After becoming cool, I checked my bike. It was ok , otherwise I had to retire.

  I recovered from the situation and started to continue to ride the bike by my bloody leg. How childish I was? I laughed at myself. It was fun anyway. I could complete this for around one and half hours.

 The third menu was 10km run. It was around 11 o'clock. very hot--- hot,hotter,hottest. Yes HOTTEST! I was already tired but still a little bit energy to continue. completed for around one hour +.

 Finally I touched the goal after three and half hours!!

 Really enjoyed!

 Dream comes true .
